ISS Turns 10 Print E-mail
Wednesday, 19 November 2008
ImageIn November of 1998, a Russian Proton rocket settled into orbit and deposited the first module of the International Space Station, the Zarya Functional Cargo Block, in space. Two weeks later, The United States added the Unity 'node' module. The image on the left shows both units joined.

In the 10 years since construction began, 14 other countries have contributed including Japan, Canada, Brazil and eleven nations belonging to the European Space Agency.

The tragic destruction of the space shuttle Columbia in 2003 as it attempted to re-enter Earth's atmosphere delayed work on the ISS for two years.

As at June 2008 (image below), the ISS weighs a little over 300,000kg and has a living volume of 350m3

The ISS currently houses has a crew of 3 for around 6 months, but with renovations taking place this month, will virtually double the crew capacity.

Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
And we'll bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph,
and sail on the steel breeze.
Come on you boy child, you winner and loser,
come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine!

Good bye Syd, you will be missed.

Save Screech's House! Print E-mail
Tuesday, 20 June 2006

Image Dustin Diamond, who played Samuel "Screech" Powers on Saved by the Bell needs your help!!

In just 40 days, he's set to lose his house.  When Saved by the Bell finished, Dustin moved from California to make Wisconsin his new home.  With a poor credit rating, he knew that a loan was virtually impossible, but managed to purchase a house on a land contract .

Over the last few years, property values have risen and they want the land back.  Not ready to back down, Dustin enlisted the help of Arthur Giraldo who works for New York Capital Exchange .  Arthur is said to be an expert on land contracts, and came by way of recommendation by and old friend who said "If he can't do it, it can't be done."

Arthur reassured Dustin that all would be good with his loan.  Dustin completed lots of paperwork but Arthur seemed to be ignoring the situation.  Repeated calls to his mobile were met with reassurances, but nothing seemed to be done.  Arthur said "Don't worry. Everything's moving ahead and all is well."

But all was not well.  Despite the fact that Dunstin had completed all the paperwork that was required, he was served with a notice of Foreclosure .  Arthur Giraldo, as it turns out, did nothing.  He did not contact the land contract holder, he did not pass on any papers that were signed.  He just didn't care what the outcome was.

Now, it's time for Dustin to take matters into his own hands.

You can help Dustin save his house for just a few dollars, Buy a TShirt!!   For $15 you get a fab shirt and for $20, he'll even sign it.  These are bound to become a collectors item!  I've got one on order, you should too!

Community TV Awards Print E-mail
Sunday, 18 June 2006

Image The 2006 Community Television Awards "The Antennas" were held on Friday 16th June at the BMW Edge Theatre at Federation Square, Melbourne Australia.  The Antennas is an event to recognise the deversity of programs being produced around Australia.

So, why am I talking about this here?  Two reasons!  Firstly, I was the floor manager for the broadcast. and Secondly, Salam Café won Program of the Year!  I think that's kind of neat :)

The program went to air live at 8:30pm in Melbourne, and was also show live via satellite in Brisbane and Adelaide; running a little over-time, the program finished at 10:40pm

Macro Photos Print E-mail

On a cold Winter night in Melbourne, there's nothing better to do than plonk yourself down in front of the heater and break out the digital camera...  Utilising a couple of CCFL tubes from a busted scanner, a large sheet of white paper and my Sony DSCP-10 digital camera set to macro, I got a bunch of photos.  Mostly Nixie stuff, but I did get a good snap of...
